2020 Budget

News Release Municipality of Machin is passing their 2020 Budget

The Municipality of Machin will be passing the 2020 Budget at our May 25th, 2020 Council Meeting.
If you would like a copy of the Budget to review, please contact the Office at 807-227-2633 Extension 22 and we will make arrangements for you to receive a copy.
If you have any questions before budget is passed, we will set up a time for a conference call, so you can get your questions answered.
We are passing the 2020 Budget, but Due to COVID 19, we may have to make some changes as the year goes on. We will inform the public of any changes being made.

V.Bay Dock Open With Social Distancing Rules In Affect

The Municipality of Machin News Release

The V.Bay Dock and Post Park Boat Launch remain open but due to COVID 19 Please remember Social Distancing Rules are if affect:
• No more than 5 people may be gathered at a time.

• Everyone must maintain physical distancing of 2 meters (6 feet) unless they are from the same household*.

• Practice personal preventive measures: hand hygiene; avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth; and cough or sneeze into bent elbow or tissue.

*Mask use is recommended for use in public when physical distancing cannot be maintained.

Please do not use this facility if any of following pertain to you:

• Have symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough, difficulty breathing, muscle aches, fatigue, headache, sore throat and/or runny nose). If you have symptoms, call the NWHU to COVID-19 hotline to be referred for testing.

• Have been in contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the past 14 days.

• Have been told to self-isolate.

Note all outdoor Municipal washroom facilities
are closed till further notice.

Please follow the social distancing rules and if these rules are not followed we may be forced to close this facility.

The Municipality of Machin is monitoring the COVID-19 virus pandemic on a daily basis. We are taking precautions to help protect our vulnerable residents and our employees.

The Waste Disposal Sites WILL NOT BE OPENING FOR SUMMER HOURS, Sites will continue to operate with WINTER hours until further notice.

The Dump Attendant will be limiting the number people in the dumps at any time and will also be screening people at the gate. The Dump Attendant has the right to refuse anyone who has traveled out of the country within the last 14 days.

We continue to monitor the situation and as things change, further updates will be provided. Please know we are taking these precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The Mayor and Council of the Municipality of Machin would like to remind the public to please continue following safe practices such as increased hand washing and if possible, keeping your distance from people. We thank the public for their continued patience and understanding during this time.

The Municipality of Machin is monitoring the COVID-19 virus pandemic on a daily basis. We are taking precautions to help protect our vulnerable residents and our employees.

Given the latest developments, we have begun the next phase of our preparation for COVID-19. We are wanting to protect the health and safety of the residents of the Municipality of Machin. Effective Tuesday, March 24, 2020, we are hereby implementing the closure of the following Municipal facilities:

The Municipal office will be closed to the public until further notice. The Municipal office will continue to take phone calls if you require any assistance. Public Works and Council Meetings will be announced. We are going to have conference call meetings on Tuesday April 14, 2020 and recordings of these meetings will be made available to the public.

The Municipality of Machin Recreation Centre will be closed with no rentals until further notice.

All Municipal Parks will also be closed until further notice. (Eagle River Park, Vermilion Bay Waterfront, The Post Park in Eagle River, Vermilion Bay Baseball Diamond and Kinsmen Beach). All Park Bathrooms have been locked.

The Woodland Arena will be closed as of March 17, 2020 for the season.

The Public Works Garage and the Vermilion Bay Water Plant will remain closed to the public.

The Municipality of Machin Reading Room will be closed until further notice.

The Waste Disposal Sites will be open with normal hours until further notice. It is also recommended that cars or small vehicles avoid travelling this road completely until further notice.

Kinsmen Beach Road has been due to the poor condition.

For Seniors, people who are self-quarantining and others in our community that need assistance or do you know someone who may need help picking up groceries, medicine or other necessary supplies, the Municipality has volunteers who will pickup your orders and setup a safe delivery system to your residence. Please call the Municipal Office at 227-2633 if you need assistance.

DURING THE MUNICIPAL OFFICE CLOSURE TO HELP STOP THE SPREAD OF COVID-19

If you have tax payments or water payments to make you can bring the payment to the Municipal Office at 75 Spruce Avenue, Vermilion Bay and put the payment in the mailbox that is at the left of the main doors.

Payments can also be made from our Municipal webpage www.visitmachin.com on the home page there is a blue ‘Make an ePayment’ button click this button and follow the instructions on setting yourself up to make payments, there is a charge for using this payment method.

If you bank at Alterna Credit Union you can pay tax and water bills through there.

Office staff are at work normal business hours 8 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday. You can call 227-2633 during these hours if you need assistance.

Please note the closure of the Municipal Office to the public does not lessen your responsibility to pay your tax or water bills on their due dates. Please try to keep your accounts current.

However, due to the unprecedented circumstances that our community is facing water arrears letters will not be sent out for the month of March, and interest charges will not be applied to accounts should payments be received after the March 31, 2020 due date.

We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation daily and make decisions concerning Municipal operations as we see fit.

Given the latest developments, we have begun the next phase of our preparation for COVID-19. We are wanting to protect the health and safety of the residents of the Municipality of Machin. Effective Tuesday, March 17, 2020, we are hereby implementing the closure of the following Municipal facilities:

The Municipality of Machin March 23rd, 2020, Council Meeting has been cancelled.

The Municipality of Machin Recreation Centre will be closed with no rentals for the next three weeks.

The Woodland Arena will be closed as of March 17, 2020 for the season.

The Municipal office will be closed to the public until further notice. The Municipal office will continue to take phone calls if you require any assistance.

The Public Works Garage will remain closed to the public.

The Municipality of Machin Reading Room will be closed for three weeks.

The Waste Disposal Sites will be open with normal hours until further notice.

Employees for the Municipality of Machin will continue to work their regular scheduled shifts.

Senior’s Bus will operate as usual, taking extra precautions to protect the staff and patrons. If your trip is not necessary, please stay at home.
